Learn More About The SC250 Arts & Cultural Council

The SC250 Charleston Arts and Cultural Council, an organization created to bring arts and cultural organizations in the greater Charleston area together to work on organizing, promoting, and supporting events and programs related to the 250th anniversary of the US, the American Revolution, and our nation’s founding.

Chamber Music Charleston is known for its wide variety of engaging and exciting classical programs, from Ovation Concerts at the Dock Street and Sottile Theatres to intimate House Concerts in the historic homes of Downtown Charleston and grand living spaces of Kiawah Island and Bishop Gadsden.   CMC attracts internationally acclaimed guest artists to play alongside their professional local musicians in over 50 concerts each season.  

Founded in 1748, the Charleston Library Society is a cultural institution for life-long learning, serving its members, the Lowcountry community, and scholars through access to its rich collection of books, historic manuscripts and archival material and programs promoting discussion and understanding of the ideas they contain.  

The collections of the Library Society stretch from the 15th century to the modern-day.

COT is committed to a prominent, year-round, professional opera presence in our city and the surrounding Lowcountry. We place high value on the advancement of acoustic vocal traditions through full-scale productions, quality performances, education, mentorship, training, and exposure of the art form to new audiences. The Charleston Symphony presents over 150 events annually, featuring Masterworks and Pops series at the Gaillard Center, chamber performances, free events, and a range of education experiences. With a budget exceeding $4.5 million, the CSO employs 24 full-time salaried musicians and supplements the core with a robust roster of the highest caliber professional musicians from around the country. 

The Gibbes enriches lives through art. Charleston’s only art museum, we are committed to telling the story of Charleston’s ever-changing landscape and its people. Including historical, modern, and contemporary works, our collection spans 350 years and features some of the country’s most celebrated artists. With world-class rotating exhibitions and a dynamic visiting artist residency program, there’s so much to see inside. Set in the heart of downtown Charleston, the Gibbes is a southern museum with a global perspective.

Former Broadway performers Brad and Jennifer Moranz create musical revues throughout the year culminating with the Charleston Christmas Special-seen by over 10,000 people each year.

The North Charleston POPS! is a professional orchestra that specializes in popular music and artists. Based at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center, the POPS! also works to impact the business and education communities in the Lowcountry and beyond. Each season is programmed with a wide variety of music, from cinema bills, 70’s rhythm and blues, and your all-time favorite classic pieces.

Palmetto City Ballet is Charleson’s only professional ballet company providing the highest level of quality dance performances, live music highlights and the integration of dance education.

Visitors and locals continue to flock to Circular Congregational Church to hear history coming to life through music performed by our finest professional musicians. Our shows entertain, educate, and evoke emotion through gospel spirituals, Civil War songs, Gershwin’s “Porgy & Bess” and “Rhapsody in Blue”, jazz and light classics of the St. Cecelia Society.

South of Broadway Theatre Company is a local destination of choice for artists and performers to showcase their work and talents. Partnering with other performing arts organizations, and individual artists SOBTC provides an unique opportunity for the tri-county Charleston arts scene.

Historical dance classes and balls with a unique blend of education and entertainment for all ages. My immersive and engaging lessons transport participants back 250 years.
