Connect with Charleston’s Revolutionary War History

Also known as the Brick Church or Wambaw Church, this stately building near Wambaw Creek was completed in 1768 and welcomed figures such as Francis Marion and George Washington.

An earlier fort at this site – Fort Sullivan – played a central role in the 1776 victory over the Royal Navy. Gen. William Moultrie is buried at the site.

This historic house museum at 87 Church Street was built in 1772 and was the home of Thomas Heyward Jr–signer of the Declaration of Independence.

This building was completed in 1713 and was used to house gunpowder and arms during the American Revolution. Today it is a museum.

Completed in 1772, this building witnessed some of the most important events of the American Revolution.

The last remnant of the large fortification called the Hornwork is located within Marion Square in downtown Charleston. The Hornwork was the central part of the Patriot line defending Charleston during the Revolutionary War.
